UK consumers prioritise debt repayments over phone bills
Research conducted by YouGov has found that UK consumers prioritise secured debt repayments (such as mortgage payments), Council Tax payments and insurance over their mobile phone bills, cellular-news.com reports.
Commissioned by credit reference agency Callcredit, the survey found that just 11% of UK consumers consider their mobile phone bill to be `one of the top four bills that they always pay`.
38% of respondents said they would prioritise paying their store/credit card debts over their mobile phone bill.
The research did find that many of those questioned were aware of the consequences of not paying their debts/bills on time, with 24% acknowledging that if they failed to pay specific bills on time, they could damage their credit rating.
Head of Callcheckcredit.com, Owen Roberts, said: “As families continue to feel the pinch of the recession in spite of low inflation, it is encouraging to see that people understand the effects of not paying bills on time.”
